​​​​​Brampton Arts Organization (BAO) is seeking workshop, event, meetups, gatherings, and program proposals from local artists, curators, arts collectives, and arts administrators for networking events!

BAO is thrilled to invite program, workshop, and community initiative proposals from artists, arts administrators, arts collectives, curators, creatives, performers, musicians and more from across Brampton! If you have an idea for a program, workshop, or initiative that focuses on community gathering, social connection, and networking, we are excited to hear it. We want YOU to help shape what BAO offers. If you have an existing initiative that you are trying to get off the ground, want to start a community initiative for the first time or are an artist facilitator with a community artmaking background, now is your opportunity to put your project forward!

What Does This Program Support?

This year we are accepting applications that focus on community gathering, social connection, and networking.

Arts and culture program proposals in any topic will be considered though we will prioritize projects that:

  • Explore ideas and skill building that support early to mid-career artists and folks that are less experienced (but very interested!) in engaging with the arts.
  • Support local! A clear connection to Brampton and the surrounding area in your proposal.
  • Do not duplicate programs BAO is currently or has previously run
    • A list of upcoming and past events can be found on our Eventbrite page and a list of programs that ran in 2023 can be found on BAO's website
  • Are submitted by applicants who self-identify as belonging to one (or more) of the following groups: (Black, Indigenous, Persons of Colour, Deaf Persons, Persons with Disabilities and Persons Living with Mental Illness, 2SLGBTQIAP). We strongly encourage applications from these communities or proposals that specifically strive to support their needs.

Ideally, we are looking for initiatives with attendance of 20 or more people. Examples of activities could include:

  • Writers gathering in the park or a creative writing circle
  • Portfolio sharing and review
  • Table reads
  • Musician mixer or open mic
  • Pop-up dance performance and mixer
  • Poetry slam
  • Dance workshop and social
  • Film screening and social

The entire budget for this project can be up to $1250 with a minimum artist payment of $500, additional budget can be used towards insurance, materials, rentals, or set up requirements. The duration of workshop/event must be a minimum of 1 hour long up to a maximum of 3 hours. The workshop can be in person or virtual.

Eligibility

  • You must reside in Brampton.
  • You must be 18 years of age or older.
  • All applicants must propose workshops within their creative discipline.
  • Workshops/events must take place before November 30, 2024.
  • Workshops/events must be delivered by the applicant.
  • Workshops/events must be located within the City of Brampton and be accessible by Transit.
  • Workshops/events must be free for participants to attend and must be accessible.
  • The entire budget (up to $1250) must be used to deliver the workshop/event (including your artist fee, insurance, materials, and all other expenses). The minimum artist fee is $500 based off of 2024 CARFAC rates.
  • Your workshop must follow any Region of Peel Public Health mandates as they arise.

What is expected of me?

  • Deliver the selected project within the program's timeline and budget;
  • Promote the project via social media;
  • Provide regular progress updates to staff;
  • Document your initiative with written and visual records
  • Submission of a Social Insurance Number will be required for Individual participating artists. Individual recipients will receive a T4A for the funding amount.

What are the rules or requirements for this project?

  • Successful applicants will be required to obtain Commercial General Liability insurance for all public programming, with an inclusive limit of not less than $5 million (CAD) per event. The policy should name BAO as additional insured with a copy forwarded in advance of the project activities onsite. Higher inclusive limit may be required for certain projects. Please ensure you include CGL in your budget.
  • Participants are required to acknowledge the support of BAO in all written materials related to the activities for which funds are granted. The BAO logo will be provided. In lieu of the logo, the recipient may use the phrase “produced with the support of the Brampton Arts Organization”
  • Recipients are required to send BAO information on any public performances or events presented in the context of this project. This information should be emailed to the Programming Coordinator.
  • In addition to the aforementioned general conditions of funding, BAO reserves the right to place other conditions on the release of the funding (such as confirmation of venue, programming, other sources of funding, etc.).

Selection Criteria

The Selection Panel will review applications for:

  • Connection to Brampton and the community/ies it seeks to serve
  • Artistic experience
  • Project feasibility (scope, budget, audience etc.)
  • Ability of project to facilitate and support community gathering, social connection, and networking And will prioritize projects that:
  • BAO hasn't currently or previously run
    • A list of upcoming and past events can be found on our Eventbrite page and a list of programs that ran in 2023 can be found on BAO's website
  • Support early to mid-career artist development

Priority will be given to applicants who belong to equity-deserving groups, including those who identify as Indigenous, Black, People of Colour, Trans, Nonbinary, Queer, Deaf, Disabled and intersections of those identities.
