501 Züm Queen

Brampton Transit has removed the Route 501C branch of the Züm Queen service that connects directly to York University via Highway 407.  All Route 501 Züm Queen service operates exclusively on Highway 7 via the York Region Transit (YRT) Rapidway. Passengers destined to York University can transfer to the TTC Subway at no additional cost (no double fare).

This change is a result of the implementation of the Province’s One Fare program, which allows riders free transfers between our service and the TTC Subway at the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre and takes advantage of the Province’s significant investment in higher order infrastructure such as the York Region Transit (YRT) Rapidway and the TTC Subway, which the 501C Züm Queen largely duplicated. This change is a result of substantial operational savings but significantly reducing the number of Brampton Transit buses that travel on Highway 407.

To better accommodate ridership demand on the Route 501 Züm Queen, service levels have been increased on the route between Downtown Brampton and the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre.

By leveraging the Ontario’s investment in existing higher-order transit infrastructure, such as the York Region Transit Highway 7 Rapidway and TTC Subway, Brampton Transit aims to simplify the alignment of the 501 service and reduce operating costs due to the increasing costs of 407 tolls.
What is Ontario’s One Fare Program?
Launched, February 26, 2024, Ontario's One Fare Program allows transit riders to only pay once when connecting to and from the TTC and GO Transit, Brampton Transit, Durham Region Transit, MiWay and York Region Transit. This integration of transit services and fares, has reduced barriers, and provided cost savings for customers transferring between these transit services.

Where is the SmartVMC Bus Terminal located?
The SmartVMC Bus Terminal is located in Vaughan Metropolitan Centre at the corner of Millway Avenue and Apple Mill Road. It is just north of the TTC subway station and Viva Rapidway station on Highway 7.
What are the alternative options for riders traveling to York University?
Customers destined to York University can transfer from Route 501 Züm Queen to the TTC subway at the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre Subway Station, or to other YRT and/or TTC services. Transferring is free for customers making these connections. Additionally, GO Transit Bus Routes from Bramalea GO Station to Highway 407 Station provide a transfer option to the TTC Subway to York University Station.
