Calling Brampton creators: City seeking artist to create a mural to celebrate Brampton’s 50th Birthday

BRAMPTON, ON – The City of Brampton is inviting professional artists and artist-led teams to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) to create a new mural in celebration of Brampton’s 50th birthday since incorporation. The mural will be displayed at The Rose, providing residents and visitors alike with an inspiring reminder of Brampton's cultural vibrancy and artistic talent.

Professional artists and artist-led teams are encouraged to submit EOIs, showcasing their public art experience and connection to Brampton. From the EOIs received, a shortlist of up to five artists will be invited to submit a concept proposal sharing their vision for the mural. Shortlisted artists will be paid an artist fee of $1,000 for participating in this phase of the competition. These proposals will be shared publicly to gather community feedback.

After reviewing proposals and gathering feedback, the Art Selection Committee, composed of peer assessors, arts professionals and community members, will recommend the winning design. Mural production will then take place offsite, with installation occurring in Fall 2024. The selected artist or artist team will be paid a one-time artist fee of $90,000 (inclusive of HST).

With its diverse communities and cultural heritage, Brampton has become a hub for art and creativity. This new mural project serves as a tribute to the city's journey over the past five decades and its promising future.

How to apply

Local creatives can submit an EOI online. The deadline to apply is Friday, May 10, at 2:00 pm.
