Advance Voting Days: Saturday, October 8 (8 am to 7 pm) & Sunday, October 9 (8 am to 7 pm) ​or Friday, October 14 (10 am to 10 pm) & Saturday, October 15 (8 am to 7 pm)

Voting Day: Monday, October 24 (8 am to 10 pm)


$1,164 - $1,186 flat-rate payment (includes hours worked on Voting Day, participation in one pairing of Advance Voting Days, and training and other duties prior to Voting Day)

Reporting to the designated Ward Manager, responsible for the orderly conduct of voting at a voting place in accordance with the Municipal Elections Act, 1996, and City election policies and procedures. Ensures all voters who are entitled to vote may do so, and handles all situations that arise. Manages all activity and staff assigned to a voting location.

Key Responsibilities:

Prior to Voting Day:

  • Attend mandatory training session and review all training material prior to working
  • Pick up ballots, vote tabulator, laptops and other supplies from the Election Office or designated location prior to Voting Day
  • Participate in one pairing of Advance Voting Days as a Deputy Returning Officer (DRO) or other election position, as needed
  • Become familiar with voting location

Voting Day:

  • Arrive at the voting location at 8 am on Voting Day
  • Manage set-up of the voting location and ensure it opens at 10 am
  • Issue bundles of ballots to DROs, as required
  • Sign-in scrutineers, administer appropriate oaths and monitor scrutineer activities
  • Advise Ward Manager if assistance is required (i.e. support, staffing, supplies, furniture, etc.)
  • Provide hourly updates to Ward Manager regarding voter stats, issues, traffic flow, etc.
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary workspace by frequently wiping down common surfaces and supplies
  • Close the voting place at 8 pm and complete closing procedures including assisting DROs with balancing, transmission of results to the Election Office and completion of worker evaluations
  • Return all documents, supplies and equipment to the designated location after close of voting

Work Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must be legally authorized to work in Canada
  • Must possess a valid driver’s licence and access to a vehicle on Voting Day
  • Must have use of a cell phone to communicate with the Ward Manager and/or Election Office on Voting Day
  • Must be able to lift and carry the vote tabulator and voting place supply bag (40-50 lbs.)
  • Must not be:
    • ​A candidate or registered third party advertiser;
    • An immediate family member of a candidate; or,
    • Actively working in support of or opposition to a candidate in the Brampton Municipal Election

Selection Criteria:

  • Supervisory and/or leadership experience, including managing, coaching and engaging a diverse workforce, promoting and fostering effective teamwork
  • Excellent problem solving and conflict resolution skills with the ability to identify solutions and manage competing stakeholder needs
  • Ability to interact with the public tactfully and courteously
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Good communication skills with the ability to effectively provide direction and instruction
  • Proficient computer skills 
  • Good command of the English language (both oral and written)
  • Knowledge of additional languages is an asset
  • Previous experience as an election offical is preferred
