As part of the Brampton Grow Green Environmental Master Plan, the City of Brampton is dedicated to maintaining a healthy, resilient and environmentally sustainable community. Recognizing the pride residents take in their front gardens, the City encourages participation in this program. Last year, the City placed front yard recognition signs on 75 front gardens and received over 193 photo submissions and aims to celebrate even more local front gardens this year.

How to the recognition program

Residents can submit photos of their front gardens by August 1, 2024, following these guidelines:

  • One photo per household
  • Landscape (horizontal) view that captures the entire front garden
  • No pets, people, or easily identifiable house numbers
  • Photos should be taken during the day for the best lighting
  • Acceptable file formats: JPG or PNG (high-resolution quality)
  • Photos must be submitted via the registration form on Brampton.ca (photos sent via social media or email will not be accepted)

Selection criteria

The City, in collaboration with the Brampton Horticultural Society and the Chinguacousy Garden Club, will select the best front gardens based on:

  • Visual Appeal: Overall visual impact, colour, and texture; harmony and balance. (Tip: Remove any winter lights and take photos from the curb!)
  • Overall Appearance: Effective use of space and design coordination between plants and other elements.
  • General Maintenance: Quality of care in pruning, weed and disease control; use of environmentally friendly methods like mulching and drought-tolerant planting.
  • Individuality: Creative use of special features like ponds, garden sculptures, rockeries, or themed gardens.

Judging will occur in August and those being recognized will be contacted in early September. For more information and to submit a photo to enter the recognition program, visit Brampton.ca/parks.
