​​​Free community events welcome the Year of the Horse with culture, food and family-friendly experiences

BRAMPTON, ON (January 28, 2026) – The City of Brampton invites residents and visitors to celebrate Lunar New Year and Vietnamese Lunar New Year (Tết) with two free, family-friendly events at Brampton City Hall. In 2026, the community will welcome the Year of the Horse through cultural performances, traditional food and opportunities celebrating Brampton’s rich diversity.

Vietnamese Lunar New Year (Tết)

Date: Sunday, February 1, 2026

Time: 12 to 2 pm

Location: Brampton City Hall Atrium, 2 Wellington St. W., Brampton, ON L6Y 1P4

Celebrate Vietnamese Lunar New Year with an afternoon of performances, free traditional food and community celebration. This event is held in partnership with Saigon Park Group Brampton.

Lunar New Year Celebration

Date: Thursday, February 26, 2026

Time: 7 to 9 pm

Location: Brampton City Hall Atrium, 2 Wellington St. W., Brampton, ON L6Y 1P4

Experience live cultural performances, including the traditional Lion Dance, and sample free traditional cuisine provided by Mandarin Restaurants.

This event is held in partnership with the Brampton Chinese Business Association (BCBA) and generously sponsored by Algoma University and Mandarin Restaurants.

Lunar New Year is celebrated by many East and Southeast Asian communities and marks the beginning of a new year based on the lunar calendar and the 12 zodiac animals. It is known as the Spring Festival in China, Tết in Vietnam and Seollal in Korea.

Since 2019, the City has hosted Lunar New Year celebrations in partnership with the Brampton Chinese Business Association, creating opportunities for residents to experience cultural programming and community connection.
