Safety measures in place throughout the event
The safety and security of attendees remains a top priority, and delivering community events where everyone feels safe and welcome is fundamental to creating a positive experience. To support this commitment, safety measures will be in place throughout the event to help ensure attendees can enjoy a safe, welcoming and memorable celebration.
During a press conference held on June 15 with Mayor Patrick Brown, Members of Council and Peel Regional Police, the City outlined operational and security measures that will be implemented at this year’s Canada Day celebration.
To support a safe and enjoyable experience for all attendees, the following safety measures will be in place throughout the event:
- Perimeter fencing with a limited number of designated entrance and exit points.
- Security and bag checks at all event entry points. All bags and containers are subject to search.
- Enforcement of a prohibited items list, including weapons, sharp objects, illegal drugs and substances, fireworks, explosives, drones, laser pointers, outside alcohol and other items that may pose a safety risk or negatively impact the event experience.
- Increased coordination between City staff, event personnel and Peel Regional Police.
- Event rules and guidelines that all attendees must follow, including compliance with instructions provided by City staff, event personnel and Peel Regional Police officers.
- Entry may be denied or attendees may be removed from the event for failure to comply with event rules, guidelines and safety requirements.
Outside food and non-alcoholic beverages, coolers, chairs, blankets, tents, strollers and pets on leash are permitted.
Attendees are encouraged to review the event's safety guidelines, rules and list of permitted and prohibited items before arriving. They are also encouraged to plan ahead, allow extra time for entry and follow guidance from Security and Peel Regional Police officers throughout the day.
