​​City joins Branch 15 and Branch 609 in marking a century of service, remembrance and community

BRAMPTON, ON (September 25, 2026) – To mark the Royal Canadian Legion’s 100th anniversary, the City of Brampton​, in collaboration with Royal Canadian Legion Major William Dwight Sharpe Branch 15 and Royal Canadian Legion Branch 609, invites residents to take part in commemorative initiatives recognizing a century of service, remembrance and contributions.

Honouring a century of service

As we celebrate the centennial year of Branch 15 Legion, here in Brampton and the Legion on a national level, residents, visitors and veterans are invited to honour this milestone through commemorative initiatives across Brampton, including: 

Marking Royal Canadian Legion Day in Brampton

Brampton City Council proclaimed July 22, 2026, as Royal Canadian Legion Day, recognizing the Legion’s centennial and its longstanding contributions to veterans, military families and the community.

​Visiting the commemorative gardens at Royal Canadian Legion Major William Dwight Sharpe Branch 15 and Branch 609

Existing flower beds have been revitalized and beautified with colourful blooms, newly installed planters and rejuvenated garden spaces, creating living tributes to 100 years of service and remembrance.

Experiencing the commemorative mural at Brampton City Hall

A mural by Brampton artist Chelsea Charles is displayed outside the main entrance at Brampton City Hall. The artwork reflects the history, sacrifice and community spirit that have defined the Legion for generations.

Discovering Brampton Transit shelter centennial campaign

Commemorative advertising will appear at transit shelters across Brampton, bringing the centennial recognition into neighbourhoods throughout the city.

Looking out for the dedicated Brampton Transit centennial bus

Keep an eye out for a specially wrapped Brampton Transit bus travelling throughout the city. The dedicated bus will bring the centennial message to communities across Brampton, serving as a moving tribute to the Royal Canadian Legion’s 100 years of service and remembrance.

Connecting with a local Legion branch and taking part in centennial events

Royal Canadian Legion Major William Dwight Sharpe Branch 15 and Branch 609 will host anniversary ceremonies, community open houses, barbecues and other programming throughout the year. These activities provide opportunities for residents to connect with their local Legion branches, learn about their contributions and take part in recognizing this important milestone. Remembrance Day 2026

The City’s Remembrance Day Ceremony on November 11 will include a special Freedom of the City Parade recognizing the Royal Canadian Legion’s 100th anniversary and its century of service to veterans and communities.
