Cooking safety starts with YOU! Pay attention to fire prevention.

In Ontario, there are 5-6 cooking related fatalities, over 100 cooking related injuries, and over $30,000,000 in property damage each year.​

Prevent Kitchen Fires - Get Cooking with Fire Safety

A recipe for safe cooking:

  • Ingredients:
    • 1 Adult staying in the kitchen
    • 2 Oven mitts
    • 1 Pot on stove
    • 1 Pot lid or cookie sheet close by
    • 1 Cleared/uncluttered countertop
    • 2 Short or rolled-up sleeves

  • Instructions:
    1. Cook on low/moderate heat until finished.
    2. Turn pot handles in.
    3. Remove excess things from around your stove that can catch on fire.
    4. Have a kid-free zone -- keep children at least one metre away from the cook​ing area.
    5. Avoid loose sleeves that may dangle into flames or onto hot elements.
    6. Never leave the kitchen when cooking.
