Call For Artists Opportunity

Deadline: March 16, 2026 at 02:00 PM

Are you an artist located in Brampton, Ontario, or with a strong connection to the city, interested in gaining public art experience and building your art practice? We are seeking emerging artists to participate in a public art activation animating traffic control boxes!

We are looking for ten (10) Brampton artists to create artwork, which will be displayed on traffic control boxes throughout the city. This project will centre Brampton voices while representing the city's diverse population, exploring the artists' connections to the city, and capturing the spirit and stories of Brampton. This opportunity is focused on helping emerging artists build their portfolios.

Some themes to consider, which align with Brampton: An Artful Future Municipal Public Art Strategy, include:

  • Celebrate and reflect Brampton's unique identity, diversity, and multiculturalism.
  • Honour Indigenous living heritage.
  • Highlight the city's distinctive communities and natural heritage features.

Key Qualifications

  • Connected to the local Brampton community (this includes current and former residents, and artists with a strong connection to the local community).
  • Artists who were successful in the 2025 program are ineligible for the 2026 program; however, they can reapply in 2027.

Opportunities and Compensation

  • $1,800 per selected artist (plus HST if applicable).
  • Payment upon receipt of final digital files and signed artist agreement.

Design Guidelines

  • Artwork to be installed at various city intersections, adaptable to different locations.
  • Original designs only; no existing copyrights infringement.
  • Must be public-friendly, non-commercial, and non-resembling traffic signals/signs.
  • Designs should deter graffiti; avoid large, solid, or blank areas.
  • Artwork created using AI is not eligible for consideration. All submissions must be original work created by the artist.

Digital Requirements

Final submissions, if selected, should be at a resolution of 300 dpi, scaled to 50% of the actual cabinet size.

Submission Requirements

Through the online submission form, you will be required to provide:

  • Image of Proposed Artwork: Sketch in JPG/JPEG/PDF format at a minimum resolution of 150 dpi. The proposed artwork does not need to be fully conceived, but should demonstrate proof of concept and a proposed colour palette.

Download and use the Traffic Box Template to create a representation of your proposed artwork (e.g., drawing, digital design, photography, etc.).
