The City of Brampton has a wide variety of municipally owned assets, ranging from parks and valleys, to buildings and streets. Many are named to celebrate the City’s rich culture and heritage. Some are named as a method of commemorative recognition to honour events and individuals’ outstanding achievements, distinctive service or significant community contributions.
City Council passed its most recent
Asset Naming Policy in March of 2019 (updated September 2021).The policy outlines:
- The criteria and process to select names for newly created City assets;
- The process to rename an existing City asset; and,
- The process for Ceremonial naming of assets.
In August 2020, Council received a
report from staff on commemorative facility and street naming. A
further report on various facility and naming requests was presented to Committee of Council on December 2, 2020. On July 7, 2021, a
report on changes to the Asset Naming Policy and recent street and park naming requests was presented to City Council.
If you would like to suggest a name for consideration, please fill out this
form. Staff will assess requests against the policy and if deemed suitable, will incorporate the names into a future report to Council for final consideration. Please note that all requests for street naming or re-naming must be evaluated by the
Region of Peel Street Naming Committee.
A list of current and recent asset naming and re-naming requests submitted to the City can be found here (updated as of April 2022).
Members of the public are encouraged to suggest potential names for streets, parks and other City Assets, based on selection criteria outlined in the policy.
