​​Month-long events celebrate Muslim heritage and recognize generations of community building in Brampton

BRAMPTON, ON (October 1, 2026) – This October, the City of Brampton, in partnership with local and national Muslim-led organizations, will mark Islamic History Month​ with a lineup of events highlighting Muslim history, culture and traditions, including mosque open houses, a community celebration and the renaming of Eastbourne Park in honour of the Kalair family.

2026 Islamic History Month events and activities

​​Islamic History Month flag raising

Join community members and partners for a flag raising at Brampton City Hall to mark Islamic History Month.

Time: 6 p.m.

Location: Ken Whillans Square, 2 Wellington St. W.

Kalair Family Park renaming ceremony

The City will officially rename Eastbourne Park to Kalair Family Park, honouring brothers Muhammad Nawaz Kalair and Muhammad Aslam Kalair and their lasting contributions to Brampton.

After immigrating from Punjab, Pakistan in 1967, Muhammad Nawaz Kalair and Muhammad Aslam Kalair made Brampton home for more than 50 years and helped establish Jami Makki Masjid, Brampton’s first masjid, in 1977. The park renaming recognizes their lasting legacy of faith, education, service and community building.

Visit a local mosque for an open house

Residents are invited to visit participating Brampton mosques to learn more about Islam, experience local Muslim community spaces and connect with neighbours.

Islamic History Month Community Celebration

Close out the month with an evening of Islamic art, history and culture featuring Arabic calligraphy with Omar Uddin, Islamic geometry and art with Safoura Zahedi, an animated presentation from Muslim Media Hub, an introduction to the Islamic Society of North America Canada’s travelling art exhibit and recognition of youth projects from Brampton Islamic Centre.

Location: Brampton City Hall Atrium and Conservatory, 2 Wellington St. W.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and spaces are limited.
