January 9- January 17, 2023

Flags at City Hall will be flown at half-mast in memory of George (Potsy) Burrows. Burrows was Brampton’s oldest war vet, known for lacrosse and his participation in the Remembrance Day parades. He was also a recipient of the Citizen of the Year award in 1997 and received the Key to the City on his 95th birthday.
In memory of Former Lietuetant Governor David Onley
January 16, 2023

Flags at City Hall will be flown at half-mast in memory of David Onley former broadcast journalist and disability advocate, who also served as the 28th lieutenant-governor of Ontario.

In memory of Hazel McCallion
January 29, 2023 and February 14, 2023 (Day of Funeral)​

Flags at City Hall will be flown at half-mast in memory of Hazel McCallion, former mayor of Mississauga and one of Canada’s longest serving mayors, has passed away on January 29, 2023 at the age of 101.
McCallion served as the mayor of Mississauga for 12 consecutive terms from 1978 to 2014, retiring at the age of 93. Nicknamed “Hurricane Hazel”, she was known for her confident political style and leadership, which saw the transformation of Mississauga from a small-town community into the sixth largest city in Canada.

In memory of the Honourable Lorna Milne, former Canadian Senator
March 7, 2023​

​Flags at City Hall will be flown at half-mast in memory of the Honourable Lorna Milne, former Canadian Senator. Lorna passed away on March 3, 2023 at the age of 88. She was a long time Brampton resident and served as Senator from 1995 to 2009.

In memory of BFES Division Chief of Fire Life Safety Education, Ravjot Chhatwal
March 23-24, 2023

Flags at City Hall and Brampton Fire Facilities will be flown at half-mast in memory of BFES Division Chief of Fire Life Safety Education, Ravjot Chhatwal.​

​Ravjot joined the City in 2013 in Strategic Communications where he helped lead multicultural media relations and engagement for the City. He then moved onto work in Brampton Fire and Emergency Services where he helped build a safer and more inclusive fire department and community. Ravjot will be remembered by his colleagues for exuding joy and kindness to all he encountered, and for his love of community building.​​

In memory of Earl Smalling
April 6, 2023

Flags at City Hall and Brampton Transit Facilities will be flown at half-mast in memory of Earl Smalling.

Earl served the Brampton community as a Transit Operator for the last 17 years and was a valued members of the Transit family.

In memory of Captain Gregory Hughes
May 19, 2023​​

Flags at City Hall and All Brampton Fire facilities will be lowered immediately from sunrise to sunset May 19, 2023, in memory of Captain Gregory Hughes.

Gregory Hughes was with BFES since 2001 and earlier this year was promoted to Captain.​

In memory of Maria Castilho
October 23, 2023​

Flags at City Hall and City of Brampton Transit Facilities will be flown at half-mast in memory of Maria Castilho, a dedicated Transit Service Clerk from the Brampton Gateway Terminal, who served our community for 21 years.
