Flags at the City Hall Cenotaph will be lowered May 4, 2025 from sunrise to sunset to in memory of Air Commodore Surjeet Singh Bhatti. He was a prominent advocate for veterans in Brampton and also served as the National President of the Indian Air Force Association of Canada. His funeral will be held on Sunday, May 4th.
In Memory of former Alderman and City Councillor Bob R. Hunter

Flags at City Hall will be lowered May 14, 2025 from sunrise to sunset in memory of Bob R. Hunter, who served the City of Brampton with dedication and integrity. As Alderman from December 1991 to November 1994, and as City Councillor from December 1994 to November 2000, Bob was a steadfast advocate for the community.
His nearly decade-long service helped shape Brampton’s growth and spirit. His legacy of leadership and commitment will not be forgotten.

Peter Robertson was first elected to Brampton City Council in 1976 and served as Mayor from 1991 to 2000, known for his dedication to education, community development, and civic engagement. A lifelong educator, he also taught at the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Education, where he helped shape future generations of teachers. The City of Brampton extends heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

On May 28, 1975, a tragic school shooting claimed the lives of teacher Margaret Wright and student John Slinger, and injured thirteen others. The event deeply shook the community and remains a somber moment in Brampton’s history. We remember those affected and honour their memory.

Emil V. Kolb (born 1936 in Gravelbourg, Saskatchewan) served as Caledon's mayor from 1985–1991 before being elected Peel Regional Chair in December 1991, a position he held for over two decades—retiring in late 2014 after 23 years in office. As Regional Chair, he led Peel through massive population growth—from roughly 334,000 to over 1.3 million—and was deeply involved in key regional services, including chairing the Peel Police Services Board from 1996.
