Intersection Cameras

The City of Brampton is advancing community safety with the installation of 360-degree cameras and licence plate recognition technology at 50 traffic intersections, selected in collaboration with Peel Regional Police.

This innovative technology provides Peel Regional Police and other law enforcement agencies with critical data to investigate crimes and improve community safety.

Real-time video footage from these cameras will be captured into a software platform offering police valuable data such as:

  • incident date and time
  • licence plate numbers
  • vehicle information, including the make, model and colour

These cameras and their footage serve as an important public safety tool, providing Peel Regional Police with critical information and real-time footage to support investigations, strengthen response efforts and improve community safety.

To date, this technology has assisted Peel Regional Police in over 200 investigations, reinforcing the initiative’s value in enhancing road safety and broader community protection efforts.

These cameras will not issue tickets, impose fines or demerit points, or affect insurance rates Their primary function is to support public safety by assisting law enforcement agencies in investigating crimes, traffic incidents and other safety concerns.

The licence plate reader cameras and video management platform are provided by Genetic Inc., a Canadian leader in security technology, while the 360-degree cameras are supplied by Axis Communications, a global leader in camera technology.
