Inspecting Brampton's Storm Sewers
The City’s 1450 km of storm sewers vary in age and condition, some being as old as 60 years. Storm sewers are expected to last 100 years when installed properly but damage can occur because of sinking ground, blockages from debris, soil conditions, and damage by plant roots. The potential for flooding increases when these problems go undetected and can become costly to address due to emergency repairs.
Remote Camera Inspection Program
To help find problems in storm sewers the City has a multi-year remote camera inspection program referred to as Closed-Circuit Television Program or CCTV. The CCTV inspections help locate problems like system blockages or breaks so they can be fixed and will be used to forecast how many more years until the storm sewers will need to be replaced.
