Inspecting Brampton's Storm Sewers
The City of Brampton maintains 2,014 kilometres of storm sewers, which vary in age and condition. Some are over 60 years old. While storm sewers are designed to last up to 100 years when properly installed, issues can arise due to ground settling, debris blockages, soil conditions, or damage from plant roots. When these problems go undetected, the risk of flooding increases, and emergency repairs can become costly.
Remote Camera Inspection Program
To proactively identify issues, the City implemented a multi-year remote camera inspection program referred to as the Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) Program. These inspections help detect system blockages, structural damage or other defects so repairs can be made before more serious problems develop. The information gathered is also used to assess the remaining lifespan of storm sewer infrastructure and plan for future replacements.
