Pass the Mic

A Youth-Led Open Mic to celebrate National Youth Week from the Cultural Programming Team.

Pass the Mic – Fourth Annual Open Mic for National Youth Week

Run by youth, for youth! This annual open mic night invites youth ages 13 - 25 to share their voices and stories on stage. Whether through poetry, song, rap or comedy, performers are encouraged to showcase their talents and connect with a vibrant community of peers. All genres of performing arts are welcome!

National Youth Week is an annual celebration recognizing the valuable role of young people in building a strong and resilient city and encourages local youth to continue to get involved and give back to the community. This open mic night provides a platform for young people to showcase their talents while empowering youth in self-expression through the performing arts.

In 2022, Pass the Mic was held at LBP Theatre where 13 youth took the stage in front of an audience of almost 60 community members. Performances included rap, vocals, instrumentalists, and one featured performance by a local youth poet.

Each year, the Heartbeats in Arts and Culture Co-op students plan and deliver the event as part of their program work, creating a space where youth of all backgrounds can engage, connect, and support each other.

Close out National Youth Week with Pass the Mic, Jazz Night! This youth-led open mic night invites young artists aged 13 - 25 to share their passion in a welcoming space. Celebrate youth creativity, build confidence and connect with a vibrant community of young artists with laid-back jazz vibes. Featuring singer/songwriter Ashabi!

He is thrilled to be at Open Mic 2026, performing what he loves most: playing the piano for a crowd. He has performed at his local church, school, recitals, and talent shows, and recently participated in Center Stage Brampton, where he had the opportunity to open and close the show with several solo pieces.
