The Café Table Pilot Program would allow businesses to place a limited number of café tables and chairs directly abutting to their storefront on City sidewalks they comply with the program guidelines and maintain pedestrian access, accessibility, and public safety.

Pilot Objectives

• Support local businesses by providing additional customer seating.

• Activate commercial streets and encourage foot traffic.

• Improve the vibrancy of business districts.​
  

• Gather feedback from businesses, residents, and City staff.
  
  

Pilot Eligibility

Businesses may participate in the Café Table Pilot Program provided that:

• The café table area is located directly abutting to the storefront and does not extend beyond the business frontage.

• The café table area does not extend more than 0.8 metres from the building face and does not exceed 5.5 metres in width, or the width of the storefront, whichever is less.

• The required pedestrian clearway is maintained at all times.

• The café table area does not interfere with fire routes, accessibility features, transit stops, utilities, loading areas, or emergency access.

• Only moveable tables and chairs are permitted.

• No umbrellas, canopies, tents, fencing, railings, partitions, platforms, stages, heaters or other structures are permitted.

• Must comply with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) at all times

• Must comply with all applicable City of Brampton By-laws including but not limited to Noise By-law 93-84, Public Nuisance By-law 136-2018, Open Fires By-law 91-94, Sign By-law 399-2002

• Must comply with all applicable public health requirements including but not limited to the Smoke-Free Ontario Act, 2017 (SFOA) regulation and the Region of Peel Waterpipe Smoking By-law (30-2016); applicants should consult with the Tobacco and Vaping Enforcement Officer at the local public health unit for more information (Region of Peel - Public Health)
  
  
• All furniture must be removed from the sidewalk at the close of business each day.

Operational Requirements

• No alcohol may be served or consumed within the café table area.

• Restaurants, bars or cafes wishing to serve alcohol are regulated by the Temporary Outdoor Patio Expansions By-law 103-2020, as amended, and may apply through that program.

• Businesses must maintain the area in a clean and orderly condition.

• Businesses are responsible for any litter generated by patrons using the café table area.

• Businesses must hold all required licences, permits and approvals and remain in good standing with the City.

• Furniture not complying with the Pilot parameters will be deemed to be regulated by the Temporary Outdoor Patio Expansions By-law 103-2020, as amended, and must adhere to these requirements.

• Furniture not removed each night will be removed at owner's expense

**The City may require the removal of the café table area at any time for maintenance, construction, emergency operations, public safety concerns, special events, or operational requirements.​
