Secondary plans are part of the Official Plan. The Official Plan is the legal document guiding how all of Brampton grows and develops. Secondary plans guide how Official Plan policies are put in place for smaller areas of the City.

Think of the Official Plan as the road map for all of Brampton. Secondary plan areas represent detailed plans for specific areas of the City – new communities, employment areas, older neighbourhoods and downtown. These plans provide more details on things like land use, community design, natural heritage, roads and parks.

Since the Bram West Secondary Plan was approved in 1998, the City needs to adjust for new market conditions, policy frameworks, and planning directions. The Bram West Secondary Plan review aims to achieve the following objectives:

  • Refine the land use plan to reflect current planning directions and designations based on the City's new Official Plan (Brampton Plan)
  • Plan for major transportation infrastructure, notably Bram West Parkway and Highway 413
  • Provide for an effective road and transit network to support new development
  • Identify key areas of growth and intensification
  • Encourage diverse housing forms and typologies, including addressing urban design issues
  • Update environmental protection measures
  • Complete a wholesome review of the secondary plan policies and merge the four chapters into one set of secondary plan policies.

For planning purposes, it has been estimated that the Bram West Secondary Plan area will be largely built out by 2051. However, it should be noted that changes in market conditions and Provincial legislation might affect the time for ultimate build out of Bram West.

The Secondary Plan Review is anticipated to be presented to Council for approval in Q2 2027.
