We thank all applicants; however, only those selected to move forward in the recruit process will be contacted.

If you meet the minimum qualifications and are selected to move forward in the recruit process you will be invited to a STRADA Assessment. This is an online assessment that objectively evaluates your competencies in relation to those required for the role. You will have 30 minutes to complete the assessment. If you cancel or do not attend your appointment time, your fees will not be refunded.

Upon the successful completion of Step 2 above, you will be invited for an Essential Skills Test. The Essential Skills Test is a written in-class assessment of fundamental competencies required for the role. Applicants must obtain the minimum passing grade in order to proceed to the next step.

If you are successful with steps 1, 2 and 3, you will be invited to complete step 4, which involves taking a ride on a Brampton Transit bus for a specified period of time on a specific route, observing, and then completing a written assignment. You will be required to bring the written assignment and speak about your experience on the ride-along at your interview. Specific instructions will be provided to you in advance via telephone or email. Step 4 must be completed before you attend your interview.

This stage of the recruitment process is the panel interview for applicants who have successfully passed steps 1, 2 and 3. You will be contacted by email to self-schedule your interview.

The City of Brampton hires qualified candidates for the job by reviewing test and assessment findings and objectively assessing one’s ability to do the job. This is achieved by asking specific types of questions called behavioural interview questions. Behavioural based interviewing is based on the concept that past behaviour is the best predictor of future behaviour. Our goal is to select people who have the skills, knowledge, abilities and experience to meet the requirements and expectations of the position.

It is recommended that you invest time researching how to appropriately respond to these types of questions. Information on behavioural based interview questions and a suggested strategy of how to respond can be found here.

You will be asked to provid the following documents to the Competency Based Interview:

  • Completed Ride Along Assignment from Step 4.
  • Proof of completed Grade 12 education or equivalent secondary education as established by the Ontario Ministry of Education. A Canadian equivalency document is required for education obtained outside of Canada. The cost of obtaining these documents is at the expense of the applicant. The following is a list of educational equivalency providers

If you are unable to present your proof of education and/or equivalency (if applicable) at the time of your competency based interview, you will be required to provide this information at step 7.

Applicants who have successfully completed the requirements to this point will be invited to participate in the ExceleRATE Assessment. The program assesses your cognitive abilities while providing insight on opportunities to improve and ensure you are operating at your best. For information about the ExceleRATE Assessment, please click here.

Following the ExceleRATE Assessment, you will be notified by e-mail whether you are successful with moving forward in the recruitment process. Successful applicants will be asked to provide the following information:

A minimum of three (3) work related references from a direct supervisor or manager as well as information in order for the City of Brampton to conduct a Criminal Record Check at no cost to the applicant. The results of the Background Checks must be favorable.

Following the successful completion of each stage of the assessment, as well as satisfactory background checks, successful candidates may be provided with information on a conditional offer of employment as a temporary Transit Driver. The offer of employment is conditional upon:

    • Successful completion of the 6-week training program and testing
    • Successful completion of a nine-month probationary period
    • Confirmation of a Ministry of Transportation 3 Year Driver’s Abstract with no indication of infractions, offences, convictions, demerit points or accidents.
    • Successfully receiving a Ministry of Transportation CZ Licence within the training period

All successful candidates will participate in a 6-week paid training program, consisting of both in-class and on-road sessions.

Upon successful completion of Step 9, temporary Transit Drivers receive a firm job offer.

Upon satisfactory completion of Step 10, temporary Transit Drivers may be considered for full-time positions. Available full-time Transit Driver opportunities are posted on our internal job board.

Note: Failure to maintain the minimum requirements for the role or to produce documentation when requested will result in the applicant being disqualified from the current recruit.
