​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Dog owners must have vaccinated, licensed and neutered or spayed their dogs before they can use the leash-free parks. The city does not allow dogs that are aggressive to humans, other animals or have a history of biting in leash-free parks. To protect children, the city does not permit young children less than ten years old in leash-free parks.

In Brampton, dog owners must keep all dogs on a leash whenever they are on any property other than their own or in leash-free areas. Owners are responsible for making sure their dogs do not run at large. A dog running at large means that it is unleashed, off its owner's property and not under its owner's control.

Animal Services staff may pick up any dog running at large and bring it at the shelter. Owners who allow their dogs to stray at large or are off leash in undesignated areas could be fined up to $5,000 for each offence.
