Nuclear Spill

Ontario is prepared to respond to nuclear emergencies provincially, nationally or internationally. The chance of a serious accident at a nuclear facility in Ontario is very low as nuclear reactors are built with multiple safe guards.

Do:

  • Turn off air conditioning, vents, fans and furnace.
  • Bring pets inside.
  • Go to the basement or other underground area.
  • Listen to the radio or T.V. for info on evacuation routes, shelters and procedures.
  • If you are coming inside, take a shower immediately and put on new clothes. Put items worn outside in plastic bag and seal it tight.

Don’t:

  • Don't go out until it's safe. If you MUST go out, cover your mouth and nose.
  • DON'T go anywhere near the incident site. Stay as far away as possible.

After the incident, don't use foods from your garden or drink milk from cows or goats until they have been inspected by the local emergency officials.
