Overview
Increasing opportunities to travel by rapid transit within the city and surrounding communities is essential for supporting the evolution of Brampton to a sustainable “future ready” city that embraces a high quality of life for all citizens.
Light rapid transit investment will play an important role in changing how people get from place A to place B and the transformation of the urban environment. This study is examining and recommending a preferred Main Street alternative to extend light rail transit from Brampton Gateway Terminal to Brampton GO station in Downtown Brampton. In December 2018, Brampton City Council has approved staff recommendations to update the Hurontario-Main LRT environmental assessment study to include three options – the HMLRT approved route, a Main-George one-way loop, and a tunnel – to extend light rail transit from Brampton Gateway Terminal to Brampton GO station in Downtown Brampton. After the City completed the Pre-Planning work for The Transit Rail Project Assessment Process (TRPAP), two preferred options were determined to be viable, A Surface and Tunnel option. The City completed the draft 30 % design and the Environmental Project Report (EPR) for both options. Brampton City council endorsed the Tunnel option.
