Building Records

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​The Building Division’s Document Services​​ may have records for your property. Types of documents available may include:

  • Property Survey
  • House Drawings/Blueprint/Floor Layout
  • Bui​lding Permit Card
  • Drain Card
  • Certificate of Final Inspection
  • Occupancy Permit
  • Two Unit Dwelling Registration Certificate
  • Three Unit Dwelling Registration Certificate
  • Garden Suite Registration Certificate
  • Other Documentation

There is no guarantee that all types of documentation are available for every property. Some of our documentation is very old. Documentation related to your inquiry may not have been provided to us during the building application process. For example, your new home builder may not have provided us with a copy of your property survey. 

You can request documentation either as a guest or a registered user on the Brampton Building and Business Portal.

Once you have made your request, we will respond within 5 business days to notify you if we have a copy of the docu​mentation you have requested.

If you choose to purchase copies, the costs associated with purchasing documents are as follows (subject to annual increase):

  • $5.93/ page + HST for documents from the file
  • $35.59 + HST for permit drawings per set when available on PDF
We do not require proof of ownership for doc​umentation.

Once pay​ment is received on the portal, you will receive an email indicating that your document(s) have been uploaded to the portal for viewing.

Please ensure you save a copy of the document to your computer as the documentation will only be available on the portal for 30 days.

The following documentation is only available through a Freedom of Information request: 

  • Educational Institutions including but not limited to: Pre-schools, primary and secondary schools, colleges and universities.  
  • Health Care Institutions including but not limited to: Hospitals, Long-term care centres, nursing homes and retirement facilities.  
  • Policing & Justice including but not limited to: Courts, Prisons, Police Stations, Probation and Parole Offices  
  • Government Offices including but not limited to: Municipal, Provincial, and Federal.  
  • Social Housing 
  • Religious Institutions 
  • Recreation Centres  
  • Public Utilities 
  • Requests for documentation related to legal cases/litigation 
  • Landlord and Tenant Board Documentation  ​​
Due to the sensitive nature of these properties, the documentation is only available through a freedom of information request. The Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA) provides members of the public with a right of access to City records. This right of access can be exercised through an access to information request, which is also known as a freedom of information request.
