Tree Preservation & Woodlot Conservation

Tree Preservation

Call before you cut or trim

Trees and hedges on your property should be trimmed to avoid overgrowth that may affect safe passage for using the sidewalk. If a neighbour’s tree is hanging over your property this is a civil issue between you and your neighbour. The City recommends you speak to your neighbour to address your concerns or seek legal advice if necessary. If you trim the overhanging limbs causing injury to the tree, you may be held liable.

The Tree Preservation By-law protects trees both on City and on private property.

Woodlot Conservation

A woodlot is deemed to be at least 0.2 hectares in area with at least two hundred (200) trees of any size per 0.2 hectares. Trees growing in Woodlots are also protected similar to other trees throughout the City.
