The City of Brampton offers a variety of experiential programming and hands-on workshops, many of which meet current Ministry of Education curriculum guidelines. We are committed to providing community learning and development experiences to all individuals with various abilities. Health & Physical Education

Dance
Dance programs emphasize fun and fitness while stressing the importance of proper technique. Dance styles offered include Hip Hop, Latin Dance, Belly Dancing, Country Line Dancing, Acro, Ballet, Jazz, and Bollywood.
Fitness & Health
A wide range of fitness classes are available for all fitness levels and abilities, including Zumba®, Boot Camp, Adventure Race Training, Kickboxing, Self-Defense, Yoga and Pilates.
Recreational Skating
Recreational skate times can be reserved as part of daily physical activity or for fun. Participants are encouraged to come out with their skates and helmets. Some rinks may have skates and helmets available for loan. Please enquire prior to booking.
Recreational Swimming
Book a recreational swim time for swim team practice, to cover a portion of daily physical activity programming, or for fun.
Swim to Survive™
This Lifesaving Society survival training program aims to have students in Ontario achieve the Swim to Survive™ standard. The program is comprised of three parts: three (3) in-water lessons, three (3) classroom water safety lessons and a handout for parents of participating children.
Swimming Lessons
Lessons are delivered in a group setting with a ratio of ten students to one instructor at City of Brampton Community Centres with swimming pools.
Ice Rink Rentals
Rent the ice to enjoy a fun-filled hockey game or fun skate at a local arena. Arenas can also be booked for school hockey teams’ weekly practices.
Powerskating
Have a trained instructor work with your school team to develop their skating ability through a series of specialized skills and drills on the ice.
Skating Lessons
Lessons are 50-minutes in duration and will include both an instruction period and a free skate portion. Participants are encouraged to come out with their skates and helmets. Some rinks may have skates and helmets available for loan. Please inquire prior to booking.
Ski and Snowboard Lessons
Introductory and beginner ski and snowboard lessons are offered in a group format at Mount Chinguacousy. Equipment (helmets, boots, skis/snowboard) are included.
Snow Tubing
Participants of all ages enjoy an exciting ride down the hill at Mount Chinguacousy on an inflatable inner tube. There are no skills required to participate. Participants must be a minimum of 42 inches in height and weigh less than 250 pounds.
Sports
Sports programs are a great opportunity for students to work as a team while staying physically fit. Skills and drills programs are offered in various sports, including basketball, curling, archery, lacrosse, gymnastics, and volleyball. Programs are run as an instructional lesson followed by a scrimmage.
Rock Wall
Students will learn the fundamentals of rock climbing, including basic foot work, different hand holds, proper balance, reading climbs and much more.

Prerequisite:
Must be minimum 30lbs, maximum 310lbs in weight
Gymnastics
Have your students develop and advance their gymnastics skills while improving their strength, balance, and coordination using the vault, bars, beam and floor. Lessons are station based and appropriate to students age and level of development.

Leadership, Development and Play

Self-Esteem and Wellness Workshops
Customized workshops are designed for various age groups. This is an opportunity to provide guidance for youth on body image, self-esteem, bullying and other priority topics requested by instructors.
Team Building
Half or full day opportunities are available for groups interested in team building exercises and activities. Programs can be delivered in a variety of formats that help participants with communication, build peer relationships, develop critical and creative thinking, enhance interpersonal skills and showcase the strengths of each team member. Bookings are available for a single class, a whole grade, or the entire school.
Leadership Courses
Students have the opportunity to meet Active Living Safety requirements through a variety of leadership courses, including: Emergency First Aid with CPR B (8 hour course), Standard First Aid with CPR C (16 hour course), and Airway Management (4 hour course).
Play Days
Play days are organized by our staff and hosted at either your school or at one of our facilities. Students enjoy age appropriate activities and games throughout the day, organized by certified leaders. Bookings are available for a single class, a whole grade, or the entire school.
Splash Pads and Wading Pools
Splash pads are a fully interactive experience with water spray elements from all directions. Plan a trip to your local splash pad or wading pool to cool off in the warmer months.
Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM)
The City of Brampton offers SHSM Certificate Programs and ICE Training in Health and Wellness and Sports Sectors. Our hands-on learning provides students real-world experience and practical skills that help to shape their future. For more information visit: brampton.ca/shsm

Community Education Programs

Animal Services Education Centre
Brampton’s Animal Services division offers programs for children of various ages focused on responsible pet ownership and animal safety and awareness.
Fire/Life Safety Education Centre
The Fire/Life Safety Education Centre is a hands-on learning facility established as a space where children can come to learn about fire safety and hazards around the home.

Outdoor Environmental Education

Custom Programs
Tailored programs can be developed based on instructor needs and in order to align with current Ministry of Education curriculum guidelines. Curriculum target areas can include Understanding Life Systems, Understanding Structures and Mechanisms, Understanding Matter and Energy, and Understanding Earth and Space Systems.
Outdoor Education
Bring the classroom outdoors with hands-on interactive activities and age appropriate sessions. Programs can include pond studies, team building initiatives, co-operative games, leadership programs, orienteering, and more.

Free School Programs

School programs by the City of Brampton are a free service to offer accessible resources and programming that promote health.

School Events
Brampton Recreation staff are available to participate in school or community events at no cost. Our staff will be happy to attend events and provide information to parents and community members about programs available in the community. Some events we have attended in the past:
- Open houses
- Welcome to Kindergarten night
- Parent information nights
- School carnivals and BBQs
- Sporting events
- Information evenings

BEST YOU Program
The City of Brampton’s Recreation division is excited to offer the BEST You! program. This FREE program supports and promotes a holistic approach to health and wellness. Three 45 minute in-school workshops have been developed that focus on physical activity promotion, social skill development and emotional awareness for students in grades 1 through 8.
Swim to Survive for Grade 3 and Grade 7 Students
The Society defines the minimum skills needed to survive an unexpected fall into deep water. These are expressed in a skill sequence in the Canadian Swim to Survive standard:
- Swim to Survive is aimed primarily at children, but people of all ages should be able to perform the Society's Swim to Survive standard.
- Swim to Survive teaches just the essentials needed to survive an unexpected fall into deep water - an important first step to being safe around water.

Summer Park Programs

Professor’s Lake Recreation Centre
Play beach volleyball, take a ride down our spiral slide, or go on a relaxing paddling trip around the lake. Canoes, kayaks, paddleboats, and stand-up paddleboards are available for individual rental or group classes.
D.M.G Chinguacousy Park
Our staff can customize a school visit that fits the needs of your students. Package options can include: mini golf, greenhouse tours, children’s garden activities, petting zoo, barn tours and sports and team building activities.
