It is commonly worn by Sikh children, youth and by some adults. In Sikhism, keeping and covering uncut hair (kesh) is an important expression of faith, respect and identity. What is the Patka Box™?The Patka Box™ is a resource kit on patkas that is available in every recreation centre in the City of Brampton. It includes a step-by-step guide on how to tie a patka in the event that one of our participants' patka becomes untied in our programs. Who is trained in the Patka Box™?Our Recreation program staff are trained to support a participant should their patka become untied with the aid of the Patka Box. This is part of our initiative to create inclusive environments in our recreation programming. What happens if my child’s Patka needs to be retied or adjusted? If your child’s patka becomes untied, loose, or needs adjustment during a program, trained City of Brampton staff are available to help. Participants can speak with program staff at any time or families can ask a Customer Service Representative at the front desk for more information. Staff across camps, aquatics and recreation programs have received training on how to support children who wear a Patka with care, dignity and respect. Related Links Frequently Asked Questions
