He went on to play junior hockey for the Brampton Battalion, where he was selected 15th overall in the first round of the OHL Draft. Known for his tough, stay-at-home defensive style, Phil was drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 3rd round of the 2005 NHL Draft (82nd overall) and made his NHL debut in 2009.
